About Stake

Stake launched in 2017, founded by Australian entrepreneurs Ed Craven and Bijan Tehrani, who had previously set up the game development company Easygo. The international site, stake.com, is operated by Medium Rare N.V., a company registered in Curaçao, and holds a licence from the Curaçao Gaming Authority (licence OGL/2024/1451/0918, issued under Curaçao's new direct-licensing regime after the older Antillephone sub-licence 8048/JAZ). In less than a decade it has grown into one of the largest online gambling brands in the world by betting volume, largely on the back of cryptocurrency players.

Stake's growth has been driven by high-profile marketing. It has been an official betting partner of the UFC, a shirt and sleeve sponsor of Everton, a Formula One title sponsor with the Sauber team, and it has worked with celebrities and streamers including the musician Drake. Its founders also launched the streaming platform Kick in 2022, where gambling streams are common. That visibility has made Stake a household name among younger bettors, but it has also drawn sustained scrutiny from regulators, journalists and campaigners about advertising and the promotion of gambling to young audiences.

The business model is different from a traditional bookmaker. Most customers deposit and bet in cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum and USDT, and the platform is built around a single wallet shared between the sportsbook, a large casino (including Stake's own in-house Originals games) and poker. Instead of a sign-up bonus, Stake rewards volume through a VIP programme with rakeback, weekly and monthly bonuses, plus a steady stream of promotions such as early payouts, raffles and races. In some countries it also offers local fiat options, for example UPI and netbanking in India.

Stake operates separate locally licensed sites in several regulated markets, and it left the UK in 2025 after its British licensee closed the UK site following Gambling Commission scrutiny. The international .com site is restricted in dozens of countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, much of the EU and, notably for African readers, South Africa. For bettors in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nigeria, Kenya and similar markets, it operates as an offshore, crypto-first site, with the benefits and risks that implies.

Some affiliate websites advertise Stake promo codes that unlock a deposit match (often described as 200% up to a set amount) with a high wagering requirement, reported at around 40x. These offers are tied to specific affiliate partnerships, may be limited to the casino, vary by region and change frequently, so bettors should read the exact terms shown in their account before depositing rather than relying on third-party descriptions.

The main long-term value comes from the VIP Club. Once a player has wagered roughly $10,000 in total, they reach the Bronze tier, which unlocks rakeback (a percentage of the house edge returned on bets placed) along with weekly and monthly bonuses. Further tiers from Silver and Gold up to Platinum and Diamond bring level-up bonuses and, at higher levels, a dedicated VIP host. This structure rewards regular, high-volume bettors much more than casual players; someone betting small amounts occasionally may never reach the first tier.

Alongside VIP rewards, Stake runs rotating sports promotions, such as early payout offers on football bets when a team goes a set number of goals ahead, refunds on specific events and tournament-themed offers, plus community promotions like raffles and leaderboard races. Stake Shield, a tool that lets a multi-bet still win if one or more legs lose in exchange for reduced odds, is also presented as a promotional feature. Promotions differ by country and are listed on the site's promotions page.

Safety, Licensing & Support

  • Curaçao Gaming Authority
  • Operator: Medium Rare N.V.

Stake.com is operated by Medium Rare N.V. and licensed by the Curaçao Gaming Authority under licence OGL/2024/1451/0918. Curaçao has tightened its regime since 2024 by replacing the old master and sub-licence system with direct licences, but it remains an offshore licence with weaker player protection than regulators such as the UK Gambling Commission. Reporting in 2026 raised questions about how Curaçao handled ownership checks when granting Stake's licence. Stake has also faced a string of controversies: its UK licensee closed the British site in 2025 after Gambling Commission scrutiny of advertising, it has been criticised over streamer and influencer marketing, and in 2025 and 2026 lawsuits in the United States targeted its sweepstakes sister site and alleged advertising to minors. None of these cases found that stake.com fails to pay players, but they are relevant to how much trust bettors place in the brand.

Legality depends on where you live. Stake's own terms restrict access from many countries, including the US, UK, Australia and South Africa, and using a VPN to get around this breaches the terms and can lead to winnings being withheld. In India, the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025, in force from May 2026, prohibits offering or advertising online real-money betting, including by offshore sites. Online betting is also broadly illegal in Bangladesh and Pakistan, while Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana and Tanzania license bookmakers locally, and Stake is not licensed by those national regulators. Crypto adds its own risks, including price volatility and irreversible transfers.

Stake's public reputation is considerably better than many offshore rivals: on Trustpilot it holds a rating in the upper range from a very large number of reviews, with fast payouts the most common praise. Support is available 24/7 through live chat, with email and a detailed help centre. Responsible gambling tools include self-exclusion, cool-off periods and budget controls. Only gamble with money you can afford to lose, set limits before you start, never chase losses, and if gambling is causing harm, use Stake's self-exclusion tools and seek help from organisations such as Gamblers Anonymous, GamCare or a local counselling service.

  • MMA and boxingUFC and major boxing cards

Stake's sportsbook is one of the broadest available to crypto bettors, with more than 35 sports, a large esports section and racing. Football gets the deepest coverage, from the major European leagues to smaller domestic competitions, and cricket fans get IPL, international series, the PSL, BBL and other T20 leagues. Esports is a genuine strength: Stake lists markets on titles such as Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, League of Legends and Valorant, often including lower-tier tournaments that many bookmakers skip. Same Game Multi lets bettors combine several markets from one match into a single bet.

Live betting covers most major events, with in-play markets, live statistics and match trackers, and live streaming is available on selected football leagues and other events subject to geographic rights. Cash out is offered on many pre-match and live singles and multis, though not on Same Game Multi or Stake Shield bets. Independent reviewers have reported competitive margins on major club football and wider margins on international and cricket markets; we have not measured Stake's prices ourselves, so bettors should compare odds before staking large amounts. Stake does not publish a policy on limiting winning bettors, and some players report reduced maximum stakes over time.

Stake covers about 50 sports.

Stake is built around cryptocurrency. It supports around 20 coins, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Dogecoin, Solana, XRP, Tron and stablecoins such as USDT and USDC, and there is no meaningful minimum deposit for crypto. Players without a crypto wallet can buy crypto with a card, Apple Pay or Google Pay through partners such as MoonPay and have it sent directly to their Stake wallet, although the partner charges its own fees. In India, Stake has offered rupee deposits via UPI and netbanking through local payment processors, and regional guides report a P2P naira option via MoonPay in Nigeria. Availability of fiat methods changes frequently and depends on the country.

Withdrawals in crypto are typically quick once approved, often within minutes to a few hours, with a network fee deducted that depends on the coin. Reviews describe a window of up to around two days in some cases. Stake has no maximum limit on crypto withdrawals, but its terms can require deposits to be wagered before withdrawal as an anti-fraud measure, and verification is risk-based: identity and proof-of-address checks can be requested at any time, including at the point of a large withdrawal, which can pause payouts. We recommend enabling two-factor authentication and completing verification before placing large bets.

Stake Mobile App

Stake's main mobile experience is its website, which is fast, fully responsive and can be saved to the home screen of any phone so it behaves like an app. There is no official Stake app on Google Play, so Android users should use the browser version and treat third-party websites offering a "Stake APK" with caution, since these are not published by Stake and could be unsafe.

What players say most often about Stake, summarised from public feedback on app stores, review sites and forums.

  • Payout speedMostly positiveThe most frequent praise in public reviews is fast, reliable crypto deposits and withdrawals, often cited as the reason players stay with Stake.
  • Platform and rangeMostly positiveReviewers regularly highlight the smooth, easy-to-use interface and the size of the sportsbook, casino and in-house games.
  • Fairness and VIP rewardsMixedA recurring minority complaint is the perception that results or rewards worsen after reaching higher VIP levels, alongside frustration with bonus value; these claims are disputed by Stake.
  • Verification and supportMixedSome players report withdrawals paused by sudden KYC requests or pending transactions and slow resolution, while many others describe support as quick and helpful.

Our Verdict on Stake

4.4/588/100 on the reviews.bet scoring method

Stake is one of the strongest options for bettors who already use cryptocurrency. Its sportsbook is broad, its esports coverage is excellent, Same Game Multi and cash out are well implemented, and crypto withdrawals are generally quick. Public feedback is noticeably more positive than for many offshore competitors, particularly on payout speed, and the VIP Club returns real value to regular high-volume bettors through rakeback and recurring bonuses.

It is not for everyone. There is no standard welcome bonus, so bettors used to large deposit matches will find the entry offer thin, and casual players may never reach the VIP tier where Stake's rewards start. Fiat options are limited and change frequently, the iOS app is only available in some regions, there is no Google Play app, and verification can be triggered at any time. The Curaçao licence offers limited recourse, and Stake is restricted or prohibited in many countries, including under India's 2025 law.

Our verdict: Stake suits experienced, crypto-comfortable bettors in countries where offshore betting is lawful, who value markets and payout speed over sign-up bonuses. Beginners, fiat-only players and anyone in a jurisdiction where online betting is prohibited should look at locally licensed alternatives instead.
